Text | A regular pentagon is a regular polygon with 5 sides. Several construction methods may be discovered. Only one is described here.
1. Take a sheet of A4 paper, hold it in a vertical position 2. Turn the sheet from left to right, until the diagonal is horizontal. There is now a lower vertex and an upper vertex. 3. Bring, by a valley fold from bottom to top, the lower vertex on the upper vertex. We obtain a pentagon with a point upwards and a horizontal hinge fold at the bottom. 4. Bring, by a valley fold from left to right, the left vertex of the pentagon to the right vertex. The fold will pass through the top vertex. We obtain a quadrilateral having, on the left, a hinge fold forming a right angle with the bottom of the shape. This is bordered on the right by a small side. 5. Bring, using an oblique valley fold from right to left, the right side of the upper flap along the left hinge fold. 6. Flip the fold from right to left. 7. Bring, using an oblique valley fold from left to right, the left side of the upper flap along the right hinge fold. We obtain a kind of accordion opening on the left on two flaps and on the right on 3 flaps. 8. Open the folding by folding the upper flap from left to right. We obtain a pentagon which has the defect of not having a surface made in one piece. But it is still beautiful! |
