Text | A square is a parallelogram having 4 right angles and 4 equal sides. Two construction methods are described below.
Method 1 - any sheet 1. Make a valley fold, which will support the first side of the square. 2. Mark two points (called 1 and 2) on the fold you have just constructed. These two points will be the ends of the first side. 3. Make a valley fold perpendicular to the first fold and passing through point 1. Mark the fold clearly. This second fold will be the support for the second side. 4. Make a valley fold perpendicular to the first fold and passing through point 2. Mark the fold clearly. This third fold will be the support for the third side. 5. Bring, by a valley fold passing through point 1, the first side to the adjacent side. This amounts to dividing the angle formed by the two selected sides in two. 6. Mark a point (called point 3) on the adjacent side the same distance from vertex 1 as vertex 2. Just use the mark from point 2, which will ensure equality between the different sides. 7. Make a valley fold perpendicular to the second or third fold and passing through point 3. 3. Mark the fold clearly. 8. Return the fold. We got a square. If paper overflows, simply fold it over to hide it under the square face. Method 2 - rectangular sheet We start from a rectangle. 1. Take a rectangular sheet, hold it in a vertical position. 2. Bring the upper edge to the right edge using a 45° valley fold from left to right. We obtain a rectangular trapezoid with point at the top. This point carries a triangular flap whose horizontal lower edge delimits a rectangle of simple thickness resting on the lower edge of the starting sheet and a lower part of each of the vertical sides of the same sheet. 3. Fold the lower part upwards, with a valley fold resting on the lower horizontal edge of the triangle carried by the point. 4. Unfold the tip, releasing it from under the rectangular flap that you have just folded. 5. Flip the fold from left to right to have a smooth shape in front of you. |
