Text | his very simple placecard is ideal for indicating the respective places of participants in a meeting. Easy to make, it is very easy to mark in Braille.
a - Placecard 1. Take a square sheet of paper (recommended 21x21 cm format) and hold it in a horizontal position. 2. Create a valley fold by bringing the top edge to the bottom edge from top to bottom. Mark the fold well. We have a rectangular shape whose largest dimension is horizontal. The upper edge is formed by a hinge fold which joins two flaps of single thickness, facing downwards. 3. Create a valley fold by bringing, from bottom to top, the lower edge of the upper flap on the upper hinged edge. Mark the fold well. 4. Flip the fold from right to left. 5. Create a valley fold by bringing, from bottom to top, the lower edge of the upper flap on the upper hinged edge. Mark the fold well. We now have a rectangular shape, which forms a small four-fold accordion. The top is broken down into a simple upper flap, which hides a double-thickness flap, which itself hides a single-thickness lower flap. The bottom is divided into two double-thick flaps. 6. Open the folding by lifting the upper double-thickness flap from the bottom to the top. We obtain a rectangular shape with a valley fold on the horizontal median. 7.Turn the folding to put it in a vertical position (the longest length vertically). 8. Create a valley fold by bringing the top edge to the bottom edge from top to bottom. Mark the fold well. You must be very careful to fold the small flaps which are hidden behind the shape. The result is a square shape. The upper edge is formed by a hinge fold which joins two downward-facing flaps. These double-thickness flaps have a complex structure, because they carry two contiguous single-thickness flaps. 9. Create a valley fold by bringing, from bottom to top, the lower edge of the upper flap on the upper hinged edge. Mark the fold well. You must fold through the two thicknesses of the flap, while maintaining the flaps below which tend not to follow the movement correctly. 10. Flip the fold from right to left. 11. Create a valley fold by bringing, from bottom to top, the lower edge of the upper flap on the upper hinged edge. Mark the fold well. We now have a rectangular shape, which forms a small four-fold accordion. The top is broken down into a double upper flap, which hides a quadruple thick flap, which itself hides a double thick lower flap. The bottom is divided into two sections of quadruple thickness. 12. Open the folding by lifting the upper quadruple thickness flap from bottom to top. We have a square shape with a valley fold on the horizontal median. 13. Flip the fold from right to left. 14. Close the fold by bringing the upper edge to the lower edge. The fold on the median exists, but it must be transformed into a valley fold. The result is a rectangular shape. The bottom and top faces of this shape will be the visible faces of the prism. The two flaps hidden inside the shape will create the base of the prism. 15. Open the folding ajar so as to have access to the two interior flaps. The interior flaps are double thickness. They are made up of a thickness which carries two contiguous flaps of single thickness. 16. To form the prism, simply slide one of the two interior flaps into the pocket formed by the other. This is certainly the most difficult moment of folding. The result is a prism that you place in front of you. The two visible sides can be marked in plain text or in Braille. This place marker is relatively solid, and withstands handling well. b - Marking in Braille. It is very easy to mark both sides with Braille writing. We carry out the marking before closing the prism step 16. If you used 21x21 cm paper, using the small Braille writing board provides all the necessary markings. The following instructions are suitable for right-handed users. 1. Open the fold obtained in step 15 by raising the upper flap vertically, from bottom to top. 2. Unfold the upper horizontal flap downwards and upwards, vertically, the front flap of the assembly raised in the previous step step 1. We now have, flat, a flap cut in the middle by a valley fold and, vertically, a rectangular flap cut in the middle by a valley fold. The two flaps are connected by a hinge fold. This hinge fold will serve as a reference for placement on the tablet. The two rectangular flaps directly linked to this hinge fold represent the reverse of the two visible faces of the prism. 3. Arrange the writing pad with the open flap to the left. 4. Arrange the fold so that the vertical flap is blocked at the height of the hinge fold by the upper edge of the writing tablet flap. The left edge of the fold is blocked by the mobile flap of the tablet, so as to leave 4 free boxes on the right. 5. Close the mobile cover of the tablet. We can then use 17 boxes on the left, on 4 lines from the top. For example, you can write on the 2nd line, centering the last name or first name. There will then be room below to write the equivalent in black. 6. Use the punch to write down what you want to present. When the placecard is finished, the inscription will appear in the middle of one of the two presentation sides. 7. To write on the other side, open the mobile flap of the tablet. 8. Turn the fold from right to left so as to bring the top to the bottom. 9. Start again from step b-4 to step b-6. All you have to do is close the prism as indicated in step a-16. The two visible sides will bear an inscription in Braille, possibly supplemented by an inscription in black, in the case of a mixed sighted-blind assembly. |
