Text | We talk more about box-pleating folding than box-pleating base. In this category we place folds which are based on series of folds parallel to the edges or diagonals. Below is an example for a box-pleating base with 8 flaps parallel to the medians. Similar techniques can be used to make accordions with folds parallel to the diagonals. 1. Take a square sheet of paper. Place it in a 'horizontal' position. 2. Form a valley fold by bringing the right edge to the left edge from right to left. Mark the fold. 3. Form a valley fold by bringing the left edge of the front flap from left to right to the right hinge edge. Mark the fold. 4. Flip the fold from right to left. 5. Form a valley fold by bringing the right edge of the front flap from right to left to the left hinge edge. Mark the fold. - We now have a vertical 4-fold accordion. 6. Form a valley fold by bringing the left edge of the front flap from left to right to the right hinge edge. Mark the fold. 7. Flip the fold from right to left. 8. Form a valley fold by bringing the right edge of the front flap from right to left to the left hinge edge. Mark the fold. We now have a vertical rectangular shape made up of two large flaps linked by a hinged fold on the right, and each carrying a small vertical accordion with two flaps. The two accordions are on the outside of the folding, one above, the other below. 9. Open the fold by taking the rear flap and rotating it from left to right around the right hinge fold. Continue the movement until the flap moves to the front position. The two small accordions are now inside the fold. 10. Form a valley fold by bringing the left edge of the front flap (including the small accordion attached to it) from left to right on the right hinge edge. Mark the fold. 11. Return the fold. 12. Form a valley fold by bringing the right edge of the front flap from right to left to the left hinge edge. Mark the fold. And here is a small eight-part accordion. |
