What is an audiogami
The Aveuglami project aims to set up the methods of teaching origami for the blind and visually impaired. One of the difficulties is to provide the means to fold between two course sessions. If the memorization of a series of folds can be made, probably after several folds, an easily consultable cheat sheet is however certainly very useful. The heart of the system is the existence of a text base describing the different stages of model folding. This base allows, from a representation whose constraints are simplified to the extreme, to produce output on diverse and varied supports, such as ordinary paper or Braille paper. A very interesting possibility, for blind people accustomed to using a computer, is the existence of the Jaws software (or any equivalent), which allows them to read the content of a screen page by voice. You can navigate the page using the directional arrows, which allow you to navigate from one sentence to another, from one word to another, or even to follow links for HTML pages. It is to use this possibility that the concept of Audiogami was developed. Under this name hides a CD which has three Elements: - a 'Readme.html' file, which explains the structure of Audiogami and provides the entry key, - an Audiogami folder, which contains the indexes of the different accessible elements and all the text files, - a photos folder, which allows each sheet to be illustrated with a photo, for use by the visually impaired or those accompanying blind people. The general structure of an Audiogami document is as follows: - entry is via a home page which lists all the themes covered in the CD. Each theme is accessible by clicking on its title. Access to an index of all models present is also provided. - there is an index of all available models. Each model is accessible by simply clicking on its title. A return to the top of the page or to the home page exists at the bottom of the page. - each theme is accessible via the home page and provides an index of the models attached to it. Each model is accessible by clicking on its title. A return to the top of the page or to the home page exists at the bottom of the page. - model sheets, which all have the same structure: o the title, o the author of the model, o the author of the script, o a brief presentation of the model, repeated at the top of the instructions, o an index of instructions with a reminder of the first words of each of them. A link under each instruction number allows you to reach it directly with a simple click. o the rest of the instructions themselves, some being accompanied by comments. o a return to the top of the page or to the index of models for this theme exists at the bottom of the page. Navigation and understanding of the whole thing is done thanks to Jaws. It is therefore possible to choose a theme, then a model attached to this theme. Once the model sheet has been obtained, you can move from instruction to instruction, go back to the top of the page, and go directly to the instruction you want to repeat. It is even possible to return directly to an instruction cited in the text (redo the step...). Once the general structure of Audiogami is well understood, finding a model and working on it seems relatively simple. This set of files is produced automatically from the Aveuglami software, which allows you to manage the model database, the assembly of themes, the creation of an Audiogami set as well as the different types of output (PDF, txt, HTML ). The longest task is, of course, creating the texts. A first model comprising 6 themes (The basics of origami, first contacts with origami, Christmas decorations, bouquets of flowers, Study of 3 swans, the base of the bird, boxes and vases) which brings together 27 models a Was created at the beginning of February 2005. It was used by several blind people, which allowed the validation of the concept. Two other Audiogamis have been produced since, giving the following list: 1 - First folds 2 - New folds 3 - Origami and teaching of geometry in primary classes |
